Allswell’s menu changes daily, depending on what’s in season and what’s available, so you can’t count on any dish being there more than once. So when you see something on the menu you’d like, you had better get to the restaurant that day. Last week Donny invited me to join him for happy hour at Allswell, and when they started serving food Donny ordered up these fried artichokes with peppercress & ricotta salata without even consulting me — he knows how much I love artichokes. I’ve eaten at Allswell several times, and this dish is one of the best I’ve had there. The artichokes were battered and fried to perfection, and sat on a bed of lemon-y, creamy sauce. The greens and the salty dried ricotta made nice companions for the artichokes as well.
